Knowledge Based Software EdgeLaser makes use of two key components when preparing a CNC program: Machine Condition File Material Information File The Machine Condition File is located in the machine control.  EdgeLaser uses this file to make sure that only valid cutting conditions are specified in the program. This prevents run time errors on the production floor.  This file is also used in several other areas of the program, including the Time Study applet to produce an accurate estimate of the time required to a part. The Material Information Files are special to EdgeLaser.  These files contain information for cutting a specific material.  Please note that these files are easily modified by the user while running EdgeLaser or by using a standard text editor such as NotePad or WordPad.  The information in the files was developed over many years by experts in laser cutting with actual field experience. This Knowledge Base is what accounts for EdgeLasers ease of use and speed in programming a part.  To successfully program a part, all the programmer needs to know is the material and thickness.  It is also easy to adjust any selections the program makes.  A programmer can use all the best features from the Knowledge Base and still ‘fine tune’ a part with ease. The Material Files are ‘open source’.  A customer can easily modify them to suit particular requirements or even create entirely new ones. Material files are fully compatible between earlier versions of EdgeLaser and this release.
